After the Nénuphar jacket, it’s now time to take a closer look at the Myosotis shirtdress!
Inspiration
The Myosotis dress is one of these patterns that take a long time maturing and becoming a reality. I had wanted to create such a dress for over a year: an aerial summer dress, oversized but flattering, casual but feminine. I wanted ruffles and dramatic volumes, but also a version that would be easy to wear in most situations.
Myosotis in details
Myosotis is a shirtdress with a slightly oversized fit. Version A of the pattern makes a statement with wide ruffles at the sleeves and hem, while version B is more subtle with plain sleeves and a simple gathered skirt.
Bust darts as well as front and back waist darts delicately bring the dress in, lending a touch of femininity to its silhouette. Discreet inseam pockets add convenience without bulk. The waistline is slightly higher than the natural waist, which, associated with the above-the-knee length, keeps it young and fresh looking. Finally, the V-shaped buttoned neckline frames the face nicely and brings some lightness to the bodice.
The Myosotis dress is a level 3 out of 5, which corresponds to an intermediate level. The main technical points are the mandarin collar and the numerous gathered panels, especially if you choose a flowy and slippery fabric.

I’ve never made a Deer + doe pattern – but upon seeing this dress in your recent email, I grabbed it right away. The pattern is now cut and fabric choice on its way to me – excited to make it up and wear ASAP!

I LOVE the bodice of this dress! The gathered skirt just doesn’t do any good for my body! How I wish the dress came with a gathered vs not gathered skirt option (say 2 box pleats each in the front and back, each pleat right below the waist dart!). I think that would make it a totally office worthy dress (even though it veers off from your inspiration pics) … Is it possible for a hack on how to do box pleats for this dress, instead of gathers?

It is such a beautiful dress. I love how the ruffled sleeves full around the elbow, rather than below the elbow. I think that is a much more flattering look! I’m looking forward to your next blog post on this dress!
