We’ve included some review highlights below, but we encourage you to visit everybody’s full posts for more photos and information. Thank you to Griisette, Laurence, Meridy, and Barbara for taking the time to review Coquelicot!
We were very excited when Griisette offered to review both of our new patterns, because she has so much fun styling her projects and takes some of the most stunning photographs we have ever seen. Luckily, her Coquelicot dress was no exception! For this version, she used a lightweight cotton poplin, and added a romantic ruffle detail with a gold ribbon trim to the hem. See her full review and photos here (fr).
I was immediately drawn to the summer vibes of the Coquelicot dress, but I admit that at first I was a little skeptical about the ruffles. I find the detail very pretty on others, but I did not know how well it would suit me. I made my first version in translucent chiffon for the beach, and I liked the shape so much that I happily made a second version! As usual with Deer & Doe patterns, I had no problem with cutting the pieces, following the instructions, or sizing. It was a pleasure to sew!

Laurence of Pimsy coud des trucs made not one but two amazing versions of Coquelicot. The first dress (on the left) is the maxi length version sewn in a lightweight and opaque viscose fabric, with only a fit adjustment on the back. For the second dress, Laurence “Pimsed It” and added her own special twist—sewing the pattern in a stretch denim, maximizing the flounce gathers at the shoulders, and changing the skirt into a pencil skirt. You can see her full review and photos here, or check out a video of both of these dresses in motion here (fr).
Coquelicot is a fairly versatile pattern in my opinion; a chameleon design that is suitable for everything from big occasions to daily outings. And take my word for it, the pattern itself is incredibly simple to make. The hardest part will definitely be choosing your fabric.

Have you seen Meridy of @groovygreylook? She has such an incredible and playful fashion sense, we were delighted when she agreed to review the Coquelicot dress. She made Version A with an SBA in a neutral black cotton fabric, styled with bold and bright jewelry. This look would be perfect for a summer date night or fancy event!
This dress is lovely . . . I particularly liked the design of the neckline, the front bodice has a square neckline, whilst the back bodice is curved. The instructions are excellent, so this pattern is suitable for everyone including beginners. I would definitely make this dress again.

Barbara of Maison Elpida never disappoints with her interpretations of our newest patterns, and her Coquelicot is no exception. She made Version A in a gorgeous lyocell viscose, an especially nice fabric match for this pattern. She opted to finish the flounce with a rolled hem, which is a great alternative if you have a machine that can pull it off. We also love her Coquelicot styled with a belt. When I saw the line drawing for this pattern, I accepted to be a part of the team of reviewers with great pleasure. It was obvious that I was going to like this dress very much . . . I am particularly delighted with this fabric and pattern pairing! I can’t wait until the weather warms up some more so I can wear my dress!

Our pattern testers have worked with us closely while we were developing the pattern, and provided feedback on the construction and fit. Our reviewers featured in this blog did not take part in pattern testing, and so did not provide feedback during the design phase. Their feedback is based on the final version of the pattern only. In exchange for their honest review, they received an early copy of the finished pattern as well as a purchase credit for fabric and supplies. The opinions they express on their blogs (which we recommend visiting!) are their own, and we have encouraged honest and constructive criticism.
