Have you seen the hashtag #2016makenine on social networks? Started by Rochelle from Lucky Lucille, the concept is to set yourself a goal of nine sewing projects to make during the year!

We loved the idea here at Deer&Doe, and we decided to share with you our plans for 2016 caspule wardrobes, each in our very own styles!

INSPIRATION

These past few years, I have started to let go of my preppy style in favor of a more minimalist silhouette, influenced by the normcore trend. I’m drawn to neutral colors: black, charcoal, nude, and white, and to clean lines.

My goals for 2016:

  • Play with fabrics and textures to build a monochrome wardrobe that is not boring
  • Find the right balance for a minimalist yet flattering silhouette
  • Sew garments that fill out the gaps in my current wardrobe and continue my Wearability Project
  • Favor high quality fibers, and solids

PROJETS

Not surprisingly, my Make Nine is mostly blacks and greys, foraying a bit into nudes 🙂 . It contains 5 Deer&Doe patterns, one self-drafted pattern, and I felt like varying things up with 3 patterns from other indie designers!

1/ Scout tee (Grainline), in nude silk (here). A wardrobe staple to combine with my black slim jeans or my navy Brume maxi skirt.

2/ Sleeveless Bruyère Shirt, in off-white cotton poplin (here). A twist on the classic white shirt, worn over slim jeans as well – chic with a pair of boots or more casual with sneakers.

3/ Sleeveless Cardamome Dress, in Deer&Doe “brouillard” chambray (here). I might reduce the waist smocking for a more casual fit. It will be perfect in the summer worn with a pair of sandals 🙂

4/ Fumeterre Skirt, in charcoal cotton lawn (here). A stunning garment to wear all year long, with a simple white t-shirt to make it less dramatic.

5/ Midi Chardon Skirt, in back twill (here). A versatile skirt that can be chic (with pumps and a blouse) or casual (with boots and a tank top).

6/ Short Brume Skirt, in black ponte knit (here). An essential staple that can be worn with everything and will supplement my maxi Brume skirt!

7/ Anima Pants (Papercut), in grey french terry (here). The fit of these pants seems to be just right to be flattering yet casual, I’m curious to try this pattern!

8/ Self-drafted cardigan, in black bamboo jersey (here). This one will replace my previous knit cardigan which I have worn to death!

9/ Asaka Jacket (Named), in peach cotton satin (stash). A pattern and a fabric that are quite exhuberant (for my style), to wear as a light summer jacket to infuse some style into plain outfits.

We’ll continue tomorrow with Camille’s #2016makenine! What about you, what are your sewing plans for 2016?
